Greetings!

What a party! We celebrated the launch of S. Sean (the magician) Tretheway's new novel Beyond the Road last week at Trio's on the River. Sean's son James, a hip-hop artist amongst other things, introduced his dad with a short piece - you may find it on Sean's website - and of course Sean entertained the crowd, with a song, a touch of magic and some info on the new book. Huge thanks to our friends at Trio's who opened their doors and their hearts to us. They're the best!! I have signed copies of Beyond the Road if you're wondering what all the talk is about.

I was flattered and excited to be asked to share a small spot on air with my friend Annie Gaffney from 90.3 ABC Coast FM Radio. On the first Tuesday (sound familiar?) of each month, around 9.40am, I will be chatting with Annie about a few brand new books of various styles. Our first discussion was a couple of weeks ago, and we talked about three books, Currawalli Street by Christopher Morgan, The Cartographer by Peter Twohig, and How to Walk a Puma by Peter Allison.

Remember to read right to the end of the newsletter for a great giveaway!

Happy reading,

from Annie & Lyn

EVENTS

KATHERINE HOWELL - "SILENT FEAR"

Katherine Howell

Silent Fear is the fifth book from Katherine Howell featuring Detective Ella Marconi, who in this book finds herself working alongside paramedic Holly Garland in the search for for a killer. Katherine herself is a former ambulance officer, so she has first hand expeience of grisly crime scenes and murder investigations. Her experience gives the novels credibility and a great atmosphere, and Katherine's writing is compelling, exciting and gutsy. We are very excited that Katherine has agreed to join us for the launch of her new book, and give us some inside information of the world of police investigation, and her journey as a paramedic and author. This will be a treat.

BOOK CLUB

Goon Squad

Our book club is meeting on Tuesday 21st February, at 7.30pm. This time we are meeting here at the shop, and we will be discussing A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. If it's easy to throw a folding chair in the car, may I ask you to do so. As we do not have firm numbers for our group, my only concern is that I may not have enough seats! I have seating for 10 or so.

Our book for March will be the new Australian novel Currawalli Street by Christopher Morgan, and our meeting will be Tuesday 20th March. At this stage it will be held here at the shop, but please check with the shop or on the website.

AFRICA

COME WITH ME TO AFRICA!!
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe 2010

I am sure that most of you out there are familiar with my obsession with Africa and things African. In 2010 I visited South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, and like everyone who visits Africa, I am planning to return. I am planning a safari around July with the operator I travelled with before, John Cooper of African Adventures. John has created an itinerary which he has named Annie's African Adventure Wilderness Safari; a 14 day, 6 passenger safari in Zimbabwe, concentrating on the areas of Lake Kariba and Mana Pools, places I have not yet visited, but regularly dream about. Included are game drives, walking safari, fishing, canoeing on the great Zambezi River, luxury accommodation, most meals, charter flights into wilderness locations, your own personal guide and a unique opportunity to discover the real Zimbabwe with someone who knows and loves the country. It will be a great mix of luxury and true wilderness experience. The safari begins and ends in Harare, where there are many good connections to other parts of Africa. If this has piqued your interest and you'd like to be one of the fortunate six safari-goers, pop in and have a chat, and I can show you the rough itinerary and give you some more details.

Have a look at John's website for some information on his safaris www.africanadventures.com.au, although this particular itinerary is not yet listed. We are finessing the details right now. Watch this space - John Cooper is planning to come up for an information evening. You should come even if you're not planning a trip this year.
