Dear Annie,

We are already well into the new year - Christmas is a distant memory! Events have already begun - we have had 2 great footpath evenings - with Frances Whiting and with Phil Jarratt, and there's plenty coming up.

To really get in the mood, I am taking myself off to Adelaide for Writers Week, which runs from 1-7 March. There is a delicious menu of guests, including Richard Flanagan, David Malouf, Mandy Sayer, Booker prize winner Eleanor Catton, Elizabeth Gilbert, Hannah Kent and my new favourite from the USA, David Vann. I have never visited Adelaide, so may even get the opportunity to visit a winery and sample a little red wine! But there are things happening before the Festival.....

Happy reading,

from Annie & Lyn

AUTHOR EVENTS

SUZAMBIA - Ninety Daze in Lusaka

Ninety Daze in Lusaka Suzanna Fisher was born in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia). Her grandparents had come as missionaries to the dark heart of Africa in the late 1800s, and both Suzanne's parents became doctors in Zambia.

Suzanne has written a light hearted novel tracing the fading culture of the expats before and after Zambia's independence of 1964. True historical events are woven around an entertaining and often humorous tale.   Suzanna will be sitting outside the shop - come and have a chat. There is never any pressure to buy the book!!

ROB MUNDLE - Bligh, Flinders & Cook

Rob Mundle - Bligh Flinders Cook

Rob Mundle is the author of the highly acclaimed explorers' trilogy consisting of BLIGH, FLINDERS and the latest instalment COOK. He is also the author of the bestselling account of the fated 1998 Sydney to Hobart yacht race THE FATAL STORM, as well as a handful of others. The Explorers', Trilogy has been a brilliant series, all factual, but told in an exciting and entertaining style. Rob will be a wonderful guest, and we have chosen to keep it very informal and have one of our footpath gatherings rather than something more formal.

SHELLEY DAVIDOW - Raising Stress-Proof Kids

Shelley Davidow

Shelley is a South African born local, with around 35 books under her belt, primarily in educational publishing. She is a teacher at the Steiner School in Doonan. Raising Stress-Proof Kids is a compelling and informative guide for every parent.

This book offers an eye-opening view on how the unhealthy and unnecessary stresses of our educational systems as well as outdated perspectives on parenting affect our children. It offers practical advice on how we can significantly and positively impact the lives of our children as they move through developmental phases and become mature, self-regulated and composed beings ready to succeed in our increasingly complex world. Come and chat to Shelley - the kids can play in the park!

T.M. CLARK - My Brother but One: An Epic Saga exploring the violence and Traditions of Rural Africa

T M Clark

We are thrilled to be working side by side with the wonderful folks from the friends of Noosa Library, when they host their first exciting event of the year; the presentation of T.M. Clark's My Brother But One.

This is a thriller, set in Hwange national Park in Zimbabwe, where I am fortunate to have visited on two occasions. Fortunately my experiences were wonderful, unlike those for the cast of this novel, whose themes include racism, poaching, friendship and war. Tony Park's dedication says "You can smell the dust of Africa, feel her pain and marvel at her incredible beauty in this sprawling tale."

THE DEALER IS THE DEVIL by Adrian Newstead

The Dealer is the Devil

This is the story of the Aboriginal art movement. In just 40 years, indigenous artists have transformed the perception of their culture from something of interest to their own people, into one of the great internationally acclaimed art movements of all time. Part road trip, part memoir, this book is an account of the fluctuating fortunes and successes of the Aboriginal art movement.

Political posturing, personal aggrandisement, commercial skulduggery and greed all play their part. There is no-one better equipped to tell this story than Adrian Newstead. His life has been devoted to the discovery and promotion of Aboriginal art. As well as being an expert in the field, he is also a lifetime friend of mine!
