Dear Annie,
Happy New Year!

Christmas has passed by once again, and we're into 2010 (what a strange number!).  It was very heartening to see that once again books were a very popular choice for Christmas gifts.  I hope you all received a literary treasure, and spent some of your festive celebration time with your nose buried in a great book.  I also hope that you all have a healthy and happy new year.  I'm excited about the start of another year of fabulous books, author events, festivals and more!

Wishing you heath, happiness and great reading for 2010.
Annie & Lyn.

Ubud Writers Festival 2010 There are many wonderful literary festivals around the country, and the world.  I was fortunate enough to experience the fantastic Ubud Writers and Readers Festival last year, and am keen to encourage others to experience this unique event.

I am looking for expressions of interest from potential 2010 literary Festival goers.

Myself and "partner-in-crime", Deb Perry, plan to put together two small groups, to visit the Byron Bay Writers Festival, which is being held from 6-8 August, and also the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in Bali which is being held from 6-10 October. We will offer packages which include transportation, accommodation and Festival passes. I need to book accommodation and transportation early to ensure a good deal for both Festivals.  It will be an opportunity to enjoy these events with a small group of people with a common interest.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, come in and have a chat with me about it, or register your interest by phone (5448 2053) or email (  (have a look at the photo gallery!)

Wyatt For those who I haven't forced a copy of "LOVESONG" upon, I encourage you to read this literary gem from Australia's Alex Miller, winner of two Miles Franklin prizes.
Look out for "WYATT", the new one from Garry Disher, coming in February.  It's gritty Australian crime, set in Melbourne.
I thoroughly enjoyed Cate Kennedy's "THE WORLD BENEATH", a story of relationships and family ties, set in the Tasmanian wilderness.
"COMMITTED: A SCEPTIC MAKES PEACE WITH MARRIAGE" is the new book from Elizabeth Gilbert, that author of "EAT, PRAY, LOVE".  This memoir continues the author's story of her life, now with Felipe, and is a contemplation on the institution of marriage.  I'm sure this one will also achieve bestseller status.
I was captivated, amazed and frightened by the new book from Margaret Atwood - "THE YEAR OF THE FLOOD".  It's a bleak, slightly futuristic, but totally believable story set in a world that has been decimated by the waterless flood, altering Earth as we know it.
Mid-March will bring the new novel from Ian McEwan, "SOLAR".  "Solar" is an engrossing and satirical novel which focuses on climate change.   This story - of one man's ambitions and self-deceptions - is a stylish new work by one of the world's greatest living writers."  Can't wait!

Susanna De Vries(Click the photos to zoom in...)

The wonderful Susanna de Vries dropped into the shop to meet new friends and chat about her writing, particularly her latest book, "Females On The Fatal Shore".  We're looking forward to another new book from Susanna around April/May.

Judy Nunn We had a lovely night at the Mooloolaba Surf Club, hosted by Sunshine Coast Libraries.  The special guest was Judy Nunn, who was promoting her new novel, "Maralinga".  As always, everyone loved Judy - she is a warm, friendly and interesting lady - and she left having made almost 100 new friends.

Gretel and Toni We had a fantastic lunch at "Trio's On The River" with Gretel Killeen and Toni Jordan.  They came to us courtesy of the "Books Alive" campaign for 2009.

The WIlliamsons "Coconut Grove" was the perfect location for the launch of Kristin Williamson's brilliant biography of David - "David Wiliamson: Behind The Scenes".

Roadside Sisters Yummy food and great laughs were on the menu when we had lunch with Wendy Harmer to celebrate the launch of "Roadside Sisters" at "Trio's".

Craig Silvey It was a delight to meet Craig Silvey, author of one of my '09 favourites, "Jasper Jones", as he took part in the Reality Bites Festival at the Cooroy Butter Factory.

Ubud Ubud Writers and Readers Festival was a fantastic experience that I want to share!  Think about joining me for the 2010 Festival!
