RECENT ACTIVITIES...

ANGE TAKATS, MATTHEW CONDON, LOANI PRIOR

Ange Takats

We had two very successful Self-Publishing workshops with literary songbird, Ange Takats. Around 20 people enjoyed Ange's well presented information, so we are hoping to see some more local books hitting the shelves in the future. Ange is available for editing, author support and more, so contact her if you are grappling with the many options for publishing -

angela.takats@gmail.com

or wordsmithservices.wordpress.com.

Matt Condon visited us for a sunny morning on the footpath, where he met lots of locals and chatted about his latest release Jacks and Jokers.

We celebrated the launch of book number four from Loani Prior, the Queen of Tea Cosies. The launch of Pretty Funny Tea Cosies was celebrated at The Rose Room on the Noosa River, where we were spoiled by proprietors Anne and Russell. What a perfect venue for a bit of tea cosy fun and frivolity!

BOOK NEWS

EVIE WYLD, BILLY SLATER, HARUKI MURAKAMI and more

We are so thrilled for Evie Wyld for taking out the coveted Miles Franklin Award for 2014. Evie was up against some of our literary heavyweights - it is a great achievement. I am looking forward to reading her book All The Birds Singing.

I enjoyed the first two books in the series for young readers - mainly boys (7-12) - from rugby league icon Billy Slater. The books have plenty of footy action, good storylines and excellent embedded messages for little boys.

For the Haruki Murakami fans - you'll be excited to hear that there's a new book being released on 12th August - Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His years of Pilgrimage. Also in August are new books from Kathy Lette, Rick Stein, Paulo Coelho, Daniel Silva and many more. There will also be big releases from the Morcombe family and also our ex Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

EVENTS COMING UP

INGA SIMPSON

We are in discussion at present regarding an event with INGA SIMPSON, author of the fabulous Mr Wigg and the forthcoming Nest (end July). The event will be in September

MAGGIE CHRISTENSEN - Band of Gold

Maggie Christensen
Band of Gold

Local author Maggie Christensen's debut novel, Band of Gold, deals with the tricky topic of new romance after a failed marriage.

Anna Hollis is a forty-seven year old schoolteacher living in Sydney. She juggles her busy life with a daughter in the throes of first love, and increasingly demanding aging parents.

Anna's world collapses when her husband of twenty-five years leaves her on Christmas morning. She makes it through the family festivities, explaining his absence with a flimsy excuse, but later breaks down on a Sydney beach where a stranger comes to her aid.

While set mainly in Sydney with the stunning backdrop of Manly Beach and other North Shore locations, Band of Gold also includes a foray to beautiful Peregian Beach with our own Annie's Books on Peregian and The Baked Poetry Café getting a mention.

RICHARD CLAPTON - The Best Years of Our Lives

Richard Clapton

A rocking and uproarious memoir that tells the story of OzRock and an amazing life in music.

For 40 years Richard Clapton has been, above all else, a songwriter - a wry observer of human behaviour and an astute commentator on the Australian condition. His best songs - Deep Water, Best Years of Our Lives, Goodbye Tiger, Glory Road, Lucky Country, Girls on the Avenue, Trust Somebody, Capricorn Dancer - capture the essence of this country like few other writers.

Now in The Best Years of Our Lives, Richard employs his keen songwriters' powers of observation, portraiture and storytelling powers to tell the best one of all: the extraordinary story of his own life.
