Greetings!

We're already well into 2017, and things have been very busy!

There are a lot of events coming up, but to stay right up to date, check the website and the Facebook.

I always enjoy my monthly chat with Annie Gaffney on ABC Local Radio, usually on the last Friday. I generally choose 3 or 4 books I have read over the month. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have an involvement with Annie and the good people at ABC Radio.

Happy Reading...

SALLYANNE ATKINSON - No Job for a Woman

Born in 1942 to an Irish father and Australian mother, Sallyanne Atkinson has had a long career as a politician and corporate board member. A non-executive company director since 1991, she is a former Lord Mayor of Brisbane and former Senior Trade Commissioner to Paris. She was also Chair of Queensland Tourism and Special Representative for Queensland in South East Asia. She now works as a business strategist and corporate advisor, drawing on her extensive experience in government, politics, management, arts and the community. Sallyanne is a mother of five children and a proud grandmother. She lives in Brisbane.

No Job for a Woman
takes us from Sallyanne's wartime childhood in Sri Lanka to her first jobs as a journalist and TV personality. Driven to make a difference in her community, she entered local politics and went on to become the first female Lord Mayor of Brisbane.

For the first time, Sallyanne shares the challenges and triumphs of a life devoted to public service in Australia and abroad, including her role in three Olympic bids. Told with warmth and humour, this inspiring story reveals how one woman defied the expectations of a generation.

SPIRIT HOUSE: THE COOKBOOK - Helen Brierty & Annette Fear

Spirit House
We are very excited to be presenting the brand new cookbook from the iconic Spirit House Restaurant and Cooking School. This is a perfect companion to the previous books, and includes basic essentials, traditional Thai favourites and other Asian recipes. Once again it is full of mouth watering photographs, clear instructions with easily sourced ingredients, and plenty of chef's tips.

Although we all love going to the restaurant and experiencing the unique atmosphere of the Spirit House, this book will be the perfect alternative between visits.

Annette and Helen will speak about the new book and the Spirit House Restaurant and Cooking School. There will some delicious Thai nibbles and a wine tasting.

You'd be mad to miss this one!

SORAYA NICHOLAS - Starlight Stables

Starlight Stables
As a horse crazy girl, Soraya dreamt of owning her own pony and riding every day. For years, pony books like The Saddle Club had to suffice, until the day she finally convinced her parents to buy her a horse.

There were plenty of adventures on horseback throughout her childhood, and lots of stories scribbled in notebooks, which eventually became inspiration for Soraya's very own pony series.

Soraya now lives with her husband and children on a small farm in her native New Zealand, surrounded by four-legged friends and still vividly recalling what it felt like to be 10 years old and head over heels in love with horses.

Soraya has published four books in the STARLIGHT STABLES series, and we hope that there will be more to come.

This is a great opportunity to meet a successful children's author. Bring the children down to the Village to meet Soraya.

Champagne for Breakfast is set in Noosa and follows the story of Rosa form The Sand Dollar. Come along to hear all about Rosa's story and why she was drinking champagne alone by the river on her 50th birthday.
