Dear Annie,

It has been a very exciting couple of months! We celebrated the launch of Mary-Lou Stephens' second memoir How to Stay Married on our footpath. We treasure our close relationship with the good folks from ABC Coast FM Radio!   Our literary lunch with Mandy Nolan at the Waterfront Restaurant was an absolute hoot, and our lunch at Ricky's with the fabulous Kate Grenville was one of the high points of my bookselling career!

Events  Kate Grenville

I am thrilled to have begun a new relationship with TedxNoosa. Their annual event is on Friday 29th May at The J in Noosa Junction. Have a look at their website www.tedxnoosa.com and book quickly - these events always sell out. I will be there with a mini version of Annie's Books. Can't wait!

TedxNoosa

Happy Reading...

Annie, Rachel & Palmira.

EVENTS...

MAGGIE CHRISTENSEN - The Dreamcatcher

The Dreamcatcher

Maggie Christensen is a local author of two novels, and we are very excited to be launching her third novel The Dreamcatcher.  Maggie's stories revolve around women over fifty and into later life, who make major changes in their lives, primarily romantic.  As a volunteer with the Noosaville Library, Maggie has been well equipped to study her genre and find her place in the literary world. We feel that Maggie will prove to be very competitive in her area of mature women's fiction

The Dreamcatcher follows Ellen, a minor character in The Sand Dollar. Ellen is a Native American bookshop owner who has the gift of being able to foretell the future, but is at a loss to explain her recent nightmares and the uncanny premonition she experiences one morning outside her shop when a dark cloud obscured the sun and she shivers with a sense of foreboding. When this is followed by the arrival in her life of an old friend of her brother, she links the two. However, there are other surprises in store and Ellen has a difficult journey ahead of her before all is resolved.

BOOK CLUB EVENT WITH SARAH ARMSTRONG - His Other House

His Other House

We are pleased to be in partnership with Noosa Libraries once again; this time to bring you Sarah Armstrong, author of His Other House. We hope that local book clubs will choose His Other House as a reading choice, and come to our event at Noosa Library to hear Sarah speak. There will be opportunity to chat with Sarah, and I will be bringing a selection of books which I feel would be good book club picks. The event is open to all - you don't need to be in a book club

Sarah's publisher Alex Craigwrites.....

His Other House (Macmillan) is Sarah Armstrong's first novel in a decade. Her first novel Salt Rain was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award in 2005.

His Other House follows the story of Dr Quinn Davidson, his wife Marianna who is desperate to conceive after several miscarriages, and Rachel, a neighbour Quinn meets in the small country town where he performs locum work. Quinn regards himself as a good man, but the loss of so many pregnancies takes a toll on his marriage to Marianna. Soon he finds himself in a passionate affair with Rachel. He decides to end his marriage and leave Marianna for Rachel, but before he is able to do so, he receives news that causes him to have serious doubts that this is the right thing to do. What Quinn chooses to do next was a complete surprise and kept me hooked till the very end.

TONI POWELL - The Yellow Car

The Yellow Car

My friend Toni Powell has been on a quest to find simple ways to bring joy and contentment into her life. Her search has found her picking the brains of ridiculously happy people and mind-boffins from around the world. Being a storyteller at heart, Toni takes all she learns and turns it into entertaining talks and classes that she shares at conferences, in schools, at work places and online. She's made two award-winning short films and is currently working on a documentary about gratitude called 'Goodness Gracious Me!" Toni has been the subject of an inspiring episode of ABC's Australian Story called 'Let There Be Light'. We will be celebrating the launch of Toni's latest project The Yellow Car - How I stopped Driving Myself Crazy - It is a quirky and life-changing illustrated book that will wipe the worry lines from the faces of all who read it.

BOOK LAUNCH WITH ANNAH FAULKNER - Last Day in the Dynamite Factory

Annah Faulkner

Annah Faulkner has been a great friend and supporter of Annie's Books since the beginning (and before!). We were so excited about her being shortlisted for the 2013 Miles Franklin Award, and subsequently winning the Kibble Award for her beautiful, bestselling novel The Beloved.

'Silence, Chris discovered, is easy. If nobody asks, you never have to tell.'

Christopher Bright is a well-respected conservation architect, good neighbour and friend. He has a devoted wife, two talented children and an old Rover. He plays tennis on Saturdays and enjoys a beer with his business partner after work.

Life is orderly, yet an unresolved question has haunted him for as long as he can remember: Who was his birth father?

Devotion to his adoptive parents has always prevented Chris from enquiring too deeply, but when his mother dies, information emerges that becomes the catalyst for changes he has never imagined.

As light is cast on his father, attention turns to his birth mother, but when he goes in search of the person behind the photo, he encounters a conspiracy of silence. His quest for information, however, reveals not only the truth about his mother's life but exposes the fault lines in his own, and Chris finds the price of knowledge increasingly heavy. Nevertheless, the truth must be told ...

Or must it
