Dear Annie,

SUMMER NEWSLETTER

The year has zoomed by even faster than usual - it's nearly Christmas! We have celebrated many books over the past year - a number of local, self published authors, and some more widely known.

Some of the more memorable events include our dear friend and local author Annah Faulkner being short listed for the coveted Miles Franklin Award for her novel The Beloved, (a shop favourite) and then taking out the 2013 Kibble Literary Award.

We launched Sex, Drugs & Meditation, the fabulous memoir from ABC Coast FM Radio's Mary-Lou Stephens on our famous footpath, and then held the most successful Biggest Morning Tea to date, thanks to Loani Prior, the Queen of Tea Cosies and of course our band of volunteers.

Biggest Morning Tea

Tea Cosies
We briefly returned to the 50s and 60s when the Beanpole of Bop, Pee Wee Wilson presented his memoir to a nostalgic crowd.   I was thrilled to be involved in the Reality Bites Festival of non-fiction literature, and am looking forward to next year's program. Lunch with Steve Bisley was a treat, served up by the Noosa Library and Rump House - he presented his memoir, Stillways, a surprisingly sensitive and beautiful memoir of his childhood, he felt like an old friend by the end of lunch.

It was my turn to be the guest when I attended the launch of Tim Winton's Eyrie in Brisbane, hosted by Avid Reader and Riverbend Bookshops. I was fortunate to have a few minutes with Tim, as usual pleading for him to come up to visit us! Our latest (and largest) event was our footpath event with Tom Carroll, where he launched his revelatory memoir T.C., co-written with his brother Nick. Tom and local wordsmith of the surfing world Phil Jarratt had great conversation, and some of the troop of blonde grommets at Tom's feet took the microphone and asked relevant and interesting questions. It was a fantastic evening!

But there is more to come!

Happy reading,

from Annie & Lyn

TINMUGS AFRICA SUNSET SOIREE - Thursday 5th December

Up until 2010, if you had lived in the Noosa area for any time at all you would have met Bud Higgins, or definitely enjoyed her food. Bud was the owner operator of Noosa Catering for around 20 years, catering for all kinds of private and public events. Bud left Noosa to return to South Africa, a former home and a place very close to her heart.

Over the years she and I have had long talks about our love of Africa, its wildlife and its people - Bud has run safaris to Africa during her time in Noosa and since returning there. Nowadays the safaris are just one method of raising urgent funds for her new trust, Tinmugs Africa where she is no longer catering, but simply feeding. Bud is making a fleeting visit to Noosa on 5th December, and we are holding a very special Africa themed event at the magnificent hilltop residence of Anne and Anthony Everingham, who have very kindly opened their home to support Bud in her humanitarian work in Cape Town.

Bud will be there with her ward, 9 year old Kristy, who Bud has taken under her wing and given opportunities otherwise unavailable to her, such as a stable home, basic hygiene and education. If you cannot join us for the event, any donation, large or small, will be appreciated and used in the front line of Bud's battle against the disadvantaged children of South Africa.

Find out about Tinmugs or contact Bud:  www.facebook/TinmugsAfricaTrust

IN YOUR ELEMENT - Michael White & Linn Wiggins

In Your Element

Are you seeking to understand yourself better? If so, In Your Element can provide you with wisdom to aid you in that quest. It combines the knowledge regarding the early use of personality profiling and animal totems to describe the inherent differences in the way people approach life and learning. This book explores how other cultures have used this knowledge to help guide people throughout their lives, helping them to embrace who they are as individuals. It outlines some of the many historical approaches taken to this topic, and then overlays the use of simple lifestyle changes, food as medicine, and Australian traditional remedies as time honoured ways for people of all ages to enjoy better health and emotional wellbeing.

The simple truth that people are different - not just in appearance, but in thought and perception as well - needs to be acknowledged. What might work for one person may not have the same effect for another, even down to the medicinal properties of plants. Our modern way of life too often fails to take our inherent psychological and physiological differences into account, a fact supported by substantial research and documentation. Authors Michael White and Linn Wiggins offer a map for both unraveling some of the mysteries surrounding who you are and learning how to influence your physical and emotional health in a positive way. This ancient wisdom for modern times can not only bring you closer to the truth of who you are, but to the people around you as well.

SOUL WHISPERS - Moira Mac

As science finds itself on the brink of uncovering the hidden world of our ancestors in the new field of epigenetics - a world that connects past and future generations in ways we never thought possible - Moira Mac confirms, through direct experience, how the effects of the environment and experiences of our ancestors is encoded in our DNA. Through a series of mystical occurrences and life events, Moira literally encounters the " ghosts in her genes" , activating and confronting the memories imprinted in her DNA. She gains a "big picture" understanding and insight into the interconnection between our ancestors and us and how our genetic inheritance affects each relationship in our lives. Com and visit, and have a chat with Moira, and also enjoy some beautiful live music.
