Life at the bookshop is full of surprises! I never thought I'd see a mini Masterchef on the footpath, but that is what happened at the launch of the brand new SPIRIT HOUSE COOKBOOK! Annette, Helen and the team from Spirit House Restaurant spoiled us with delicious wine and Thai nibbles. It was great fun.

Unfortunately the weather didn't favour us for Ben Allmon's talk, but a hardy few braved the tempest and came to meet him. His book FOOT NOTES tells the story of Ben's crazy walk from Pottsville to Sydney - the weather didn't do him many favours there either! The book is a shop favourite - adventure, danger and humour in one package!

We have some extremely exciting events coming up - see the end of the newsletter. Even our largest events can offer an intimacy with authors not found in other places. Every author is different, and every single one has a different story. Get a group together and have an informative, funny and unique experience.

Happy Reading...

INGA SIMPSON - Under Story

Inga Simpson
Inga is the author of the best-selling novels Mr Wigg, Nest and Where the Trees Were, which has been longlisted for this year's Miles Franklin Award. I think that Inga's new memoir Understory has taken her to new heights of her craft. We have decided to use the beautiful setting of the Noosa Parks Environment Centre to celebrate the release.

"The understorey is where I live, alongside these plants and creatures. I tend the forest, stand at the foot of trees and look up, gather what has fallen."
This is the story of a tree-change, of escaping suburban Brisbane for a cottage on ten acres in search of a quiet life. Of establishing a writers retreat shortly before the Global Financial Crisis hit, and of losing just about everything when it did.

It is also the story of what the author found there: the beauty of nature and her own path as a writer. Understory is a memoir about staying in one place, told through trees.
